How much does research cost?
It depends on what you already know, how many family lines you want to follow and where the records are kept. That is why we always prepare a free, personalised quote listing the sources we will consult and the expected timescale; we start work only once you have approved it.
How long does it take?
Quick searches (a single record, a family in the 1841 census, a check in our databases) usually take a few days. A full reconstruction usually takes a few weeks, several at most. The timescale is stated in the quote.
What do I need to know to get started?
The names of one or two ancestors and a place, even an approximate one, are enough. The more information you give us (dates, family papers, photographs, memories), the more focused the research will be.
Do I need to come to Livorno or to Italy?
No. We work with clients all over the world: everything is handled by email and the results reach you in digital form.
Do you also research outside Livorno and Tuscany?
Yes. Livorno is where we started, but we follow families wherever they went, in Italy and abroad, using parish, civil, notarial and State archives.
What will I receive at the end?
A written report listing the sources consulted, together with digital copies of the records found. On request we also prepare family trees in various formats, an ancestor table, a migration map, a timeline and a family geography: you will find examples on the Services page.
Can you help with Italian citizenship (iure sanguinis)?
We reconstruct the line of descent from your Italian ancestor and obtain the necessary birth, marriage and death records. Apostilles, translations and other related services are available on a separate quote.
In which language can I write to you?
Italian, English or French.
What if nothing is found?
The quote covers the research work, not the outcome: genealogy depends on what the records have preserved. That is why, before quoting, we assess which sources exist and what can reasonably be expected; if an obstacle arises during the research (lost or inaccessible registers) we let you know straight away and decide together how to proceed.
What do you do with my data and my family’s data?
We use it only for your research, we never pass it on and we do not publish data about living people. Details are in our privacy policy.
